My View on the Use of E-Dictionary When it comes to learning English, nobody can do it well without the assistance of a dictionary. Confronted with the difficult task of learning English at college level, many students turn to electronic dictionaries (e-dictionaries) for help.
While an ordinary, paperback English-Chinese/ Chinese-English dictionary is often big and heavy, e-dictionaries are small and light, hence quite portable and handy. They provide students with an easy access to information concerning pronunciations, spellings, meanings, translations, antonyms and synonyms whenever students come across a new word.
However, with a limited storage capacity, e-dictionaries are often subjected to a low storage of good examples illustrating the usages of a word compared with its high storage of vocabulary. Meanwhile, an ordinary, paperback dictionary will turn out popular and helpful when it offers abundant examples and illustrations for a word. And a financial problem will also arise if you intend to possess an e-dictionary. The price of an ordinary, paperback dictionary is around 100 Yuan, but the price of an average e-dictionary is often over 200 Yuan.
I would like to have both. I will carry an e-dictionary with me to all my English classes, and, keep an ordinary, paperback dictionary close at hand when I am learning alone.
