As a social member, few of us can avoid the overwhelming influence of news media, through which we can get full information of the outside world efficiently. Some believe that news media have positive impact, but others disagree. Personally, I believe that news media contribute much more than people realize.
There is no doubt that some people or institutions try to mislead the public by making up fake news for the sake of private interests. But this situation only appears on a few occasions and most mainstream media are still reliable when providing genuine information constantly, through which we can know the latest policy or big events going on, so news media have more positive impacts obviously.
Positive sides can be manifested from three aspects. To begin with, it is one of the most important ways to spread information in modem society efficiently. In other words, news media update their information not by the day, but the minute or even the second. Moreover, from those news media, people can not only judge trends by reviews of the public but also receive useful advice from specialists and experts, which will be of benefit to making decisions. Most importantly, it is the news media that establish a platform, on which laymen and experts get chances of equal communication. Without it, there will always be a gap between the decision makers and the public.
To sum up, news media are more than a way of spreading information in modern society, as they provide people with a window to outer world and a forum of communication which enables everyone to participate in the Information Age.
