第4篇　　如果汉字简化运动从1909年陆费逵在《教育杂志》创刊号上提出《普通教育应当釆用俗体字》算起，也有100年了；并且导致“文化中国”出现了繁体字和简体字并存的局面。现在的问题是，简体字正随着中国国际影响的扩大而走出国门，国内恢复繁体字的呼声却越来越高。主张使用繁体字的人把简体字说得一文不值，主张使用简体字的人则把繁体字骂个狗血喷头。但在笔者看来，繁体字和简体字不是水火不容的关系，而是应该并列为中国的“国字”。　　汉字简化运动从一开始就存在一个认识误区，即繁体字难认、难读、难写，所以造成中国人不识字、没文化。实际上，识字水平和文化程度与社会经济发展以及教育的普及提高有很大关系，和字体难易程度的关系不是很太。　　另外一个问题是，文字固然是一种工具，但它也有自己的生命力，有其特定的、具体的含义。简化汉字存在着不少问题，这是个不争的事实。　　我们原先有“国语”即汉语普通话的观念，今后也应树立“国字”即汉字的观念。但是，“国字”不是只有一种，而是有两种，即繁体字和简体字。繁体字代表着五千年的中国历史文化传统，是个长历史的大传统；简体字代表着近百年尤其是新中国成立后的中国历史文化传统，是个短历史的小传统。对于这两种“国字”，我们都要爱护和珍惜，不能非此即彼、厚此薄彼，更不能说主张恢复繁体字就要废除简体字，反之亦然。
