阿房宫是秦王朝的巨大宫殿，遗址在今西安西郊15千米的阿房村一带，始建于公元前212年。为全国重点文物保护单位。据《史记·秦始皇本纪》记载：“前殿阿房东西五百步，南北五十丈，上可以坐万人，下可以建五丈旗，周驰为阁道，自殿下直抵南山，表南山之巅以为阙，为复道，自阿房渡渭，属之咸阳。”其规模之大，劳民伤财之巨，可以想见。秦始皇死后，秦二世胡亥继续修建。
